Software – dvorak7min
// February 7th, 2006 // Free Software
Last night my head felt a bit ‘sif’ (too much anti-allergy pills) and I had a tough time doing anything much productive. I thought this would be a good time to practice typing with the dvorak layout , and found dvorak7min, a nice typing tutor type program. The Debian/Ubuntu package also features two scripts that allow you to easily switch between dvorak and the US keyboard layout.Learning to type from scratch is tough, but improved typing speed due to a more efficient layout sounds worth it.Screenshot:

I just switched to Dvorak, too, and dvorak7min is an amazing program!
Yay! I’m not the only person in Ubuntu who thinks dvorak is a good idea.
I’ve switched, and it typing doesn’t really make my arms tired anymore. The problem is that I picked up all sorts of bad habits (like typing the numbers keys with the wrong fingers) when I had to take a Qwerty course in school before I knew about Dvorak, so I can only type ~45-50 WPM. (But then again, I never got above 45 on Qwerty.)
